Meet Dr. David Balestrini

David J. Balestrini
DMD

Being a dentist is a dream come true for me.  I love what I do because my profession is a mix of science, art, engineering and compassion.  Bringing these four things together to help a patient is very rewarding.  I believe what my team and I do changes peoples’ lives for the better on many levels.

Education and Experience

I received my undergraduate degree in Biology from Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., in 1985, completing my undergraduate degree in 3 years and graduating Summa Cum Laude.  I went on to pursue my Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, finishing in May of 1989.

After graduating from dental school, I spent three years on active duty in the U.S. Navy caring for active duty members of the Navy and Marines and their dependents.  In 1991, I was deployed to Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War in support of Operation Desert Shield/ Storm.  When my Navy days were complete, I began my private practice career as an associate in a group practice in Williamsport, Pa.  In 1998, my family and I moved to the beautiful Adirondack Mountains, purchased a dental practice from a retiring dentist and began serving the people of the North Country.

Every year I attend the American Dental Association conference.  It is the largest meeting of dental professionals in the country and I get a chance to attend continuing education courses, both lectures and hands-on, from the top professionals in the field.  I also get a chance to make new contacts, renew friendships and recharge my batteries.  Because this is the largest gathering of its kind in the country, many vendors display their products and services, allowing me to stay current on the latest research and development in my profession.  I also attend regional continuing education opportunities from Saratoga, NY, to Boston, MA, each year.

Outside the Office

I am the proud father of three great children, David, Christopher and Danielle.  Aside from my family and practicing dentistry, my other passion is running and triathlons.  I love competing in half marathons, marathons and other running races.

In April of 2016, it was a great thrill to run in the prestigious Boston Marathon, an event I will never forget.  Throughout the years, I have competed in many triathlons.  Mini’s, sprints, halves and full triathlons are all great fun.  The highlight of my triathlon life was completing the Lake Placid Iron Man in July of 2014.  The thing I love most about sports is the ability to meet people from all over the world who have the same interests and love of the sport.  When not training for marathons or triathlons, my other interests revolve around being outdoors, from biking, swimming, canoeing and kayaking in the summer to Alpine and Nordic skiing in the winter.

In the Community

Being an active member of my community is very important to me.  From a dental standpoint, I provide care to the residents of Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid.  My team and I also participate in the American Dental Association national event called “Give Kids a Smile” every February, offering free screenings and sealants to the children in the Tri-Lakes area.  On a more personal note, I am on the board of the Lake Placid Outing Club, have led many Boy Scout camping trips, help coach a girls softball travel team and have been an American Legion member for 18 years.  I take great pride in sponsoring many community organizations including Lake Placid Center for the Arts, The Shipman Youth Center, Adirondack Chill Softball, U.S.A. Bobsled and U.S.A. Luge, among others.
